Assignment:
The Veterans History Project is a project of the Library of Congress aimed at collecting oral history interviews, memoirs, letters, diaries, photographs, and other original materials from veterans of World Wars I and II, and the Korean, Cold War, Vietnam, and Persian Gulf Wars and the Afghanistan and Iraq conflicts (2001-present). Those citizen civilians who were actively involved in supporting war efforts (such as war industry workers, USO workers, flight instructors, medical volunteers, etc.) are also included in this project.
The GWC Digital Arts students in DARTG174 InDesign class use the original Library of Congress project as a starting point for their final class project. Students find and interview a veteran, collect photos and other material then write and design a 20 page book based on this research. These books are printed using iPhoto in a hardcover format.
Over the past six years the students have created 200+ books about veterans from all over the world.
Displayed here is just a small sample of this growing collection.
